A Library is a peaceful place where one can get away from it all and indulge in a good book. However, it’s often hard to keep a library quiet and peaceful inside your own home. The noise, children and distractions keep you from truly enjoying it. Here at Stop and Store Squamish we are big fans of peace and quiet and we are going to tell you how to build your own library.

Build Your Own Library (Cheap and Easy!)

Always check with your storage company before you build, some may have restrictions on what you can and cannot do.

Rent A Storage Unit

First things first, you need a quiet, private space. What better place than a self storage unit. Storage units provide the quiet and privacy that a library requires, they are also very cheap to rent out. We aren’t telling you to get away from your family, but sometimes, you just need to.

Find Shelving

Go grab some sturdy shelving, doesn’t have to be brand new, and we even encourage trying to find some for free. Craigslist has a great “Free” section, where you are more than likely to find furniture that people are giving away for free. Be conscious of the size of your unit, measure before you buy. If you feel so inclined, you can also build your own shelving, talk about the savings.

Bring Books

From your home, from the library, from friends, it doesn’t matter, just stock those shelves. If you are more inclined to use an e-reader, then maybe a portable power source or two to keep things charged up. Make sure to keep your books dry, you don’t want mould to start growing.

Find A Chair

Alright, time to get comfy. Go and grab your comfiest chair, or find/buy one. What completes every library is the chair you read in. In addition to this chair, maybe grab a lamp or two to make sure you can actually see. Unless, of course your unit has built in lighting.

Spruce It Up

Now that your library is complete, time to add some small additions to make it feel like home. Maybe a rug or two, a painting, and even a small speaker if you enjoy listening to music while you read.

Now that you have your own library, time to enjoy that peace and quiet as long as you like.
